Beethoven was a temperamental genius, composer of some of history’s most recognizable melodies. It is said that he often dipped his hands in cold water before composing, and that he loved cooking so much that he named one of his pieces, “Christ! On the Mount of Olives.” He wrote one of his sonatas entirely in the night and named it the “Moonlight Sonata.”
